Der Tourismus nimmt in Wiens Wirtschaft eine bedeutende Stellung ein: Laut dem von Statistik Austria und WIFO entwickelten
regionalen Tourismus-Satellitenkonto für Wien betrugen die Gesamtausgaben für Urlaubs- und Geschäftsreisen, Verwandten- und
Bekanntenbesuche sowie Aufenthalte in Wochenendhäusern und Zweitwohnungen 2011 3,85 Mrd. € (+5,0% gegenüber dem letztverfügbaren
Berichtsjahr 2008). Davon entfielen 54,7% auf inländische Reisende, 44,9% auf ausländische Reisende und 0,4% auf Aufenthalte
in Wochenendhäusern bzw. an Zweitwohnsitzen. Die direkten Wertschöpfungseffekte des Tourismus in Wien erreichten 2011 mit
1,33 Mrd. € einen rechnerischen Anteil am Bruttoregionalprodukt von 1,7%. Unter Berücksichtigung auch der indirekten Effekte
trug die Wiener Tourismuswirtschaft 4,1% zur regionalen Gesamtwirtschaft bei. 2012 dürfte diese Kennzahl auf 4,4% gestiegen
sein.

A Tourism Satellite Account for Vienna. Economic Relationships, Methods and Main Results for 2011
Tourism is an important factor in Vienna's economy: According to the regional tourism satellite account computed for Vienna
by Statistics Austria and WIFO, total spending on holiday and business trips, visits to relatives and friends and stays at
weekend and second homes amounted to € 3.85 billion in 2011, a plus of 5.0 percent compared to 2008 (latest available data).
From the total expenditures, 54.7 percent were spent by domestic travellers, 44.9 percent by foreign visitors and 0.4 percent
on stays in weekend and second homes. In 2011, the direct value added amounted to € 1.33 billion, which is 1.7 percent of
the gross regional product. The direct and indirect effects of tourism contributed 4.1 percent to Vienna's overall economy.
In 2012, this figure might have increased to 4.4 percent.
