The Productivity Growth of Austrian Companies from 2013 to 2020

An Analysis of Micro Data

This article first provides an overview of the development of labour and multifactor productivity in Austria in an international comparison and then analyses selected indicators of productivity development based on micro-aggregated firm-level data for Austria. The latter show pronounced structural differences in terms of sector affiliation, size and relative position of companies in the productivity distribution. There are economies of scale in all sectors examined. However, these have only increased during the period under review in non-financial market services, where, in contrast to the manufacture of goods, there is also a trend towards the expansion of existing productivity advantages.
