Current Problems of the Austrian Pension System

In the first half of the eighties, the Austrian pension system got into financial difficulties for the first time. These difficulties were alleviated in the short term by the cyclical upswing, but the fundamental causes continue to exist, and the ageing of the population adds new ones in the long term. Without a reform of the system, the old-age security system will face serious financial difficulties at the beginning of the next century.
