Long–Term Energy Projections

The new long–term projections for the 1990ies assume buoyant growth of output and incomes, a marked increase in the Austrian population, constant real energy prices for consumers and continued efforts at greater efficiency of energy inputs. Under these assumptions demand for energy is expected to rise by 14 percent over the decade. The bulk of additional demand will likely be covered by natural gas, the contribution from hydroelekctric power is difficult to assess. In the long term no expansion of domestic energy supply output is to be expected. As more energy will have to be purchased abroad, the import dependency of Austria's energy supply is going to rise.
