Eastern Europe as a Market and Competitor in Tourism

Political upheavals in Eastern Europe and the USSR will have important repercussions on international competitive conditions and traveling habits of the population. The rapidly rising tourism tide will affect Austria both as a destination and as transit country. The spreading of demand over time and in space as well as its diversion towards mass transportation would constitute adequate measures to reduce seasonal peaks and alleviate the burden for the resident population and the environment.
