Trapez.Analyse – Transparent Pension Future: Gender-specific Pension Differences in Austria. Quantitative and Qualitative Findings

In a European comparison, the pension gap between women and men is particularly high in Austria. On the basis of all incomes of 65-year-olds and older people, the gender gap in pensions is 38.7 percent. On the basis of new pensioners in 2017, the gap is even 42.3 percent. The high gender gap is determined by the low income of women and the lower number of years of insurance for women. Most of the women surveyed correctly assessed the size of the pension gap, and they also correctly evaluated the influencing factors, although they are less informed about the institutional structure of the Austrian pension system.
