The Centrope Central European Region: Taking Stock of a Business Region

  • Gerhard Palme
  • Martin Feldkircher

The study investigates from an economic perspective the prerequisites and development of the border-crossing business region Centrope extending between Vienna, Bratislava and Györ. For this purpose it uses indicators to measure Centrope's competitiveness within the EU. In a second step, it examines the factors determining regional competitiveness, before analysing border-crossing functional relations and spatial spillover effects by methods of spatial econometrics.
