Capacity Utilisation and Turnover in the Austrian Manufacturing Sector

In Austrian manufacturing, large companies can utilise their capacities better than small companies. In order to check if this conclusion from the WIFO Business Survey has its counterpart in real economic developments, we examined data from business cycle statistics and found a tendency for large companies to increase their turnover more strongly than small companies. Further analysis based on the WIFO Investment Survey revealed a weak statistical connection between the size of a company, capacity utilisation and turnover, but further important factors are at work there.
