2014: Moderate Upswing in the European Construction Industry

Throughout 2013, the construction industry suffered from the heavy pressure exerted by imbalances in the real estate markets. Civil engineering was affected in particular by restricted public budgets. Altogether, overall construction volumes declined by 3.0 percent. For 2014, demand in general is expected to recover and thus fuel growth in the European construction industry (+0.9 percent). Austrian construction output will grow disproportionately well in 2014, chiefly due to a strong drive to build new housing.
