WIFO's 85th Anniversary: Publishing Activities

  • Angelina Keil

Since its foundation, WIFO has published works by some of the most renowned economists of the time – papers that greatly influenced theoretical and empirical economic research of the period. In the "Monatsberichte" (Monthly Reports), Friedrich A. von Hayek, the Institute's first director, introduced in 1927 a business cycle reporting method which still serves as a basic concept for what has since become the Austrian Institute of Economic Research (WIFO). WIFO publications contain analyses of subjects of relevance for economic policy using the prevailing methodology and high quality data. WIFO communicates its research findings to the economically interested public through a broad range of publications.
