FAMO – Skilled Workers Monitoring. Regular Survey of Demand and Supply of Skilled Workers in the Border Region of Eastern Austria and Slovakia. FAMO II: Impact of the Financial and Economic Crisis on Households and Enterprises in Vienna – An Individual Data Analysis

The study finds that a large part of the population of Vienna was affected by the financial and economic crisis. In extrapolated terms, some 310,100 persons of working age felt the impact of the crisis. The number of those generally affected by the crisis does not differ much by socio-economic criteria, although there are marked differences in how they were affected. Almost half of the surveyed businesses in Vienna were also affected by the economic crisis. One in four made staff cuts in response to the crisis. However, flexible working hour schemes appear to have contributed much to stabilising employment during the economic crisis. At the time of the survey, the employment of additional workers was planned especially by those businesses that had made staff cuts and by internationally operating companies that profited from the international upswing.
