Fuel Efficiency of the Austrian Passenger Vehicle Fleet

Passenger cars contribute a large – and moreover dynamically growing – share of CO2 emissions. Accordingly they are central to climate protection strategies. Improving the fuel efficiency of passenger car fleets is a key strategic objective of transport-related mitigation policies because it can, ceteris paribus, cut down on fossil fuel demand and facilitate the achievement of targets for the use of renewable energy (biofuels and electricity).
