Economic Importance of Telekom Austria – Fixed-line Network

With sales of over € 4.7 billion in 2006 and a workforce of more than 15,000, the Telekom Austria Group is one of Austria's major corporations. The group offers opportunities for numerous enterprises within and outside the region, i.a., by supplying products and services to the Group. Furthermore, TA provides and maintains a large part of the national telecoms infrastructure. WIFO estimated the macroeconomic effects from its ongoing operation and investment using the MultiREG model. The analysis was necessarily limited to subaspects of the Group's activities, considering neither its infrastructural component nor changes in its institutional framework. Ongoing operations and investment together found a contribution of some € 3.4 billion to gross value added. TA's fixed-line sector provides some 41,000 jobs, either directly or indirectly, in all of Austria, accounting for some € 920 million in taxes, of which € 610 million goes to the federal leval and € 75 million (8 percent) to Vienna.
