When the Austrian Institute of Economic Research WIFO was re-established after 1945, its scientific profile was chiefly defined by Hans Seidel, who recently celebrated his 80th birthday. He attained his vision of what WIFO should be and become by his careful attention to the editorial work for all publications by the Institute, as well as by a wealth of own studies, all of which met the most stringent criteria of international empirical economic research.
