Identifying revealed comparative advantages (RCAs) in an EU regional context

  • Project lead:
  • Andreas Reinstaller

The study breaks down national trade data (in gross output and value-added) to the regional level across EU member countries. It assesses how different regions perform in terms of RCA and tries to explain the regional variation in sectoral RCAs using regional economic indicators (productivity, skills, R&I investments, patents, infrastructure), and assess the explanatory power of these indicators over time. The study was commissioned in the context of the European Competitiveness Framework Contract led by WIFO and is executed by the project partners NIW (Germany) and wiiw (Austria).
