Austrian energy consumption paths 2030/2050. Socio-economic conditions and drivers

The project defines possible paths of energy consumption and production in Austria from 2012 to 2030 and 2050. In a first step, socio-economic issues as well as climate and energy policy issues are defined, which are seen as sensitive drivers of energy consumption in Austria. These scenarios (including energy supply and emissions) are quantified by applying the DYNK (Dynamic New Keynesian) model of WIFO, which has a focus on integrating the energy system and emissions into the economic system. The following sectors and critical issues receive specific consideration: energy intensive industry (energy prices and competitiveness, CO2 capture), other industry (energy efficiency), energy sector (CO2 capture, energy efficiency), freight transport (technological progress), and "carbon leakage" vs. imported emissions from foreign demand.
