Employment effects of the major road network in Austria

An improved accessibility due to extensions of the road infrastructure results in a larger economic range of people and businesses. The potential productivity effects of road infrastructure investments might directly translate into positive employment and growth effects. The aim of the research project is an analysis of the employment structure along the major road network in Austria. Using small-scale employment data the project empirically estimates employment effects due to expansions of the network. It moreover deals with potential employment effects due to the planned S1 extension (Schwechat–Süßenbrunn), shedding some light on the expected structural effects in the region under scrutiny.
