The Economic impacts and interdependecies of subsidised housing construction in Vienna

As an update to earlier WIFO study ("Die volkswirtschaftlichen Verflechtungen des geförderten Wohnbaus in Wien"), we analyse the economic ramifications of the construction of subsidised housing in the city of Vienna in the years 2010-2013. Distinguishing between the following types of subsidies and type of construction: the construction of new residential builidngs, the renovation of old residential buildings (both subsidised under the title of "Wohnbauförderung", a mix of grants and subsidised loans), and new residential buildings which is privately financed but whose loans are co-guaranteed by the CIty Council ("Wohnbauinitiative"), we discuss the role of this segment of the construction industry for the Viennese (and Austrian) economy.
