Regional Economic Linkages of the Glass and Optical Industry in Tyrol

The production of glass and goods made of glass is of particular importance for Tyrol, and especially for the districts of Innsbruck-Land and Schwaz; it directly employs about 11 percent of the people working in Tyrolean manufacturing. This great importance for the location area and the regional economy is to be illustrated by the present project, whereby both the direct effects and the indirect linkages – i.e. the regional patterns of intermediate input relations – are considered. In addition, the induced effects on income, private consumption and business investment will be included in the analysis. The aim is to estimate how potential changes in the glass industry in Tyrol could affect the regional labour market, and thus also provide a basis for possible future economic policy considerations.
