Current innovation research assumes that environmental policy, which includes environmental regulations and requirements as well as environmental taxes for companies, and the promotion of entrepreneurial research in the area of the development of environmentally friendly technologies must be combined in order to achieve steering effects on the technological change towards sustainable and environmentally and resource-friendly forms of production. On the one hand, this study will discuss these interrelationships against the background of recent literature and present the development of the environmental sector, inventive activity in environmental technologies, as well as the development of research funding in the environmental sector in Austria in the recent past. Subsequently, an attempt will be made to shed light on the connection between environmental innovations and employment at the company level.
