9th World Congress of the International Microsimulation Association

WIFO Organized Event at the University of Vienna
WIFO hosted the 9th World Congress of the International Microsimulation Association (IMA) at the University of Vienna from 8 to 10 January 2024. 170 conference participants from all over the world exchanged their knowledge and experience on the development and use of microsimulation models. In a dense three-day program, a broad spectrum of lectures on exciting topics related to microsimulation was offered.

WIFO Director Gabriel Felbermayr opened the congress, afterwards Ralf Münnich (University of Trier) gave a keynote speech on "Synthetic data generation – what is the impact on microsimulation?". Wolfgang Lutz (IIASA) spoke about world population projections.

There was also lively participation in the presentations by WIFO economists: Martin Spielauer (The microWELT platform and its application for care projections with a case-study for Austria), Silvia Rocha-Akis (Redistribution by the state in Austria), Thomas Horvath (Projecting changes in the size and composition of the Austrian labour force based on the dynamic microsimulation model microDEMS), Ulrike Famira-Mühlberger (Care regimes and their relevance for projecting long-term care needs and impacts on caregivers), Asjad Naqvi (The spatial-temporal distribution of exposure to traffic-related Particulate Matter emissions in Vienna).
