The New Foreign Trade with the East

  • Jan Stankovsky

Austrian exports to the East expanded vigorously in 1990 (+15 percent; excluding the USSR +25 percent). The political and economic revolution in the Eastern countries requires a revision in the breakdown of Austria's foreign trade. In its reports on foreign trade, WIFO will no longer count the former GDR among the Eastern countries, but will now include Yugoslavia in this group. Slovenia and Croatia account for more than 60 percent of Austria's trade with Yugoslavia. The liabilities of the Eastern countries vis-à-vis Austria are estimated at AS 170 billion.
