A Development Model for the Industry in the Styrian Border Region

The Northwest and the Southeast of Styria differ greatly in their economic structure. Over the past ten years economic policy has concentrated on renewing the economic potential in Upper Styria; now the focus is shifting back to the border region. The Styrian government has commissioned WIFO to collaborate on a development plan for the Styrian border area. The results of the study indicate that the main growth potential lies in strengthening interregional links. Raising qualifications in atypical female occupations should increase the income level in the region.
