Development of Agriculture and Forestry During 1989 by Provinces

  • Matthias Schneider

Agriculture and forestry could increase their value of production and value added during 1989. The farmers could profit from favourable demand conditions in central markets. The development was more differentiated by region than usual. Given an average increase in gross revenue by 5 percent, the dispersion of growth rates went from +10½ percent in Tyrol to –5½ percent in Burgenland. Generally losses in vegetable production hit above all the eastern regions. The western provinces, however, could take advantage above all of higher revenues in live-stock farming and of very good results in forestry.
