Eastern Border Regions as Challenge for Policy

Regional developments in Austria have long exhibited an East-West gradient. In the border regions to the East deficits in economic and social conditions are particularly pronounced. This gives rise to a decline in population which in the long run may jeopardize the economic and cultural infrastructure in certain counties. The article analyses the situation and discusses different approaches in support of the Eastern border regions.
