Foundations for an Economic Concept for the City of Salzburg

Building on the work on the economic concept for the city of Salzburg from 1993 and WIFO's current research work on Austrian and European urban development, this project compares the Salzburg city region with similarly sized and developed metropolitan regions in Europe to identify strengths and weaknesses as well as development potential. Moreover, on the basis of smaller-scale data, the economic links between the city of Salzburg and its surroundings are examined. These empirical results and international research results on urban development form the basis for the analysis of the central challenges of urban development in the next ten years. From this guidelines for a conceptual monitoring of the economic development of the city are derived and economic policy measures are discussed, which can contribute to a dynamic urban development.
