Forecast of Building Permits for Housing Units in Austria in 2013 and 2014. Part No. 4

Housing permits are an important indicator for total housing construction. In order to better estimate future housing production, the number of building permits for single and multi-family housing units as well as the total are forecast using econometric models. Important drivers are demographics, the macroeconomy and housing policy. Housing permits significantly increased in 2011 (42,200 units) and dropped noticeably in 2012 (37,700 units). For 2013, a further decrease is anticipated (35,800 units), only by 2014 a stabilisation at around 35,900 units is expected.
