COVID-19 Crisis: Analyses of the Social Situation in Austria. Part 1

The social impact of the current economic crisis affects the population quite differently. This study provides a first assessment of the effects of the COVID-19 crisis on the income situation of private households and the crisis impact of different groups in 2020. The fiscal effects analysed in the report show a dramatic slump in government revenues and a general government net borrowing of –10½ percent of GDP. Equivalised disposable income of private households developed very heterogeneously by groups of persons, with households with unemployed persons having significant income losses in the first half of 2020. The groups affected (apprentices, persons in short-time work, unemployed, self-employed) will be analysed in more detail in a section yet to be published.
