Circular Economy and Strengthening the Repair Sector

Repair is seen as a contribution to a more resource-efficient economy. Repair of consumer goods still plays a minor role compared to repair of vehicles or machines. Economically, the lack of incentives for producers to offer repair-friendly products is one explanation. On the consumer side, changes in preferences or a lack of confidence in repaired goods can influence the demand for repair. The ecological and macroeconomic effects of measures to strengthen the repair sector depend largely on the extent of deadweight effects. Considerable deadweight effects can be assumed for all fiscal measures.
