Digital Transformation in Austria: A Status Quo Analysis

Based on a multitude of indicators, the study offers a comprehensive and at the same time manageable inventory with the aim of a conclusive overall assessment of the current state of digital transformation in Austria. In an international comparison, Austria is only in the midfield in terms of most digitisation indicators and is sometimes far behind. Nevertheless, the data do not show a general investment gap, but comparatively high investments in information and communication technologies. However, these are offset by a demand gap, which is reflected above all in the relatively low level of private use of modern broadband services and applications. In companies, the adoption of new digital services often corresponds to the international average. The goal of an active and shaping role for Austria in digital change requires a broad spectrum of coordinated economic policy instruments.
