Medium-term Employment Forecasts for Austria and the Federal Provinces

As a basis for medium-term forecasts of the future qualification demand WIFO regularly produces forecasts of the development of employment by occupations, sectors and gender. The current calculations cover the period 2021 to 2028 and offer a rich set of forecasts for 38 sectors and 9 occupation groups. On the level of the nine federal provinces, we provide estimates for 38 sectors and 9 occupation groups as well. With total employment growth of nearly 1.1 percent p.a., there is a clear trend towards higher skill requirements and service-oriented activities. Academic occupations show clearly above-average growth, while professions with higher proportions of low-skilled show employment losses.
