Which Course Works for Whom?

Effectiveness of Public Employment Service Training in Austria

A recent WIFO study investigated how different types of training provided by the Public Employment Service Austria affect the labour market opportunities of different groups of unemployed. The study distinguished between the different types of subsidies according to content, type of provider, qualification achieved, training intensity and target group orientation. This article summarises the key findings of the effectiveness evaluation. On average, all eight evaluated measures have a positive effect on the labour market participation and employment opportunities of the treated unemployed. However, courses are very heterogeneous in their design and effect.
