Absence from Work Report 2021. Absences Due to Sickness and Accidents in Austria

This report provides an overview of the evolution and distribution of absences from work due to illness and accidents in Austria. In 2020, employees on average spent 12.7 calendar days on sick leave. This is a slight decrease over the previous year and corresponds to a loss of annual working hours of 3.5 percent. The employment declines in 2020 led to decreases in both total absenteeism but also per insured person. The focus module is dedicated to early intervention and reintegration tools for people with long sick leave and mental illness.
