The Economic Impact of Thermal Spa Tourism in Austria at District Level

Additional Study for the Spa Resorts of the Thermen- & Vulkanland Region of Styria

This study aims to depict the economic significance of the six spa resorts of the Thermen- & Vulkanland Region of Styria at district, state and federal level. According to a model estimate by WIFO, these spa businesses generated direct, indirect and induced value-added effects in Austria in 2019 of  291.2 million € and an employment level of around 4,345 full-time equivalents (self- and wage-employed). For the districts of Hartberg-Fürstenfeld and Südoststeiermark, the thermal spa businesses concerned generated a total value added of 104.3 million € and 1,835 full-time jobs (direct, indirect and induced).
