START2030 at the 17th Symposium on Energy Innovation

100 Percent Renewable Energy Sources in the Electricity Sector
WIFO and the Institute of Electricity Economics and Energy Innovation at Graz University of Technology within the START2030 project organised a workshop on achieving 100 percent renewable energy sources in the electricity sector in Austria by 2030 at the 17th Symposium Energy Innovation.

In the online workshop, first the expansion plans for renewable energy sources in Austria according to the Renewable Expansion Act (EAG) adopted in 2021 were discussed. Afterwards, the focus was on modelling the transformation of the electricity system. For this purpose, on the one hand, the structure and extensions of the two models used in START2030 (DYNK and ATLANTIS) as well as the approach for linking the two models were presented. This aspect was complemented by a presentation of the ACRP project "SECURES". The SECURES project investigates the impact of climatological changes on the electricity system, while the focus in START2030 is on the economic and social consequences of the transformation.

The START2030 project is funded by the Climate and Energy Fund and is carried out within the ACRP programme. In a nutshell, START2030 aims at analysing the economic impacts and social consequences of a transformation towards an electricity system based on 100 percent renewables in Austria by 2030. For this analysis, WIFO's macroeconomic model DYNK and the partial model of the electricity market ATLANTIS of the Institute of Electricity Economics and Energy Innovation are expanded and linked. Further information about the project and all presentations held in the workshop is available at the project website.
