Substudy 16: An Ageing Service Society

Compared to international figures, employment in Austria grows at a relatively weak pace. One of the reasons is the low dynamics prevailing in the services sector. Personal services, especially household services, child care and nursing care, grow at a moderate rate only. Below-average tertiarisation goes hand in hand with low dynamism with regard to women's employment and their income relative to that of men. In Austria, women's retirement from gainful employment for family reasons (child care, nursing) is longer than in other countries.
