Austrian Direct Investment in Central and Eastern Europe

In 2003, Austria was finally able to close its FDI gap. A major contribution to catching up with the scope of active di-rect investment was provided by Austrian investments in the CEECs. Recently, interest has been tending to shift to-wards the more distant CEE countries. For several years now, yields from FDI in the CEECs have been going up. An analysis of Austrian direct investment in these countries provides evidence that Austrian businesses have been quick to grasp the opportunities offered by the opening of the East and EU enlargement.
