Creative Industries in Vienna: At the Interchange of Technology Policy and Cultural Policy

The creative industries in Vienna constitute a highly heterogeneous sector, spawning products at the crossroads between arts, business and technology. They obtain their relevance for technology policy not so much through their contribution towards generating new technological knowledge but rather through the substantial knowledge and technology transfer originating from them. Pronounced cluster structures and internal interlinkages as well as a high degree of interdisciplinarity between traditional business sectors and the creative industries have turned this relatively young business into an excellent prospect for Vienna's employment policy.
