Growth Supported by Domestic Demand

Cyclical weakness abroad is persisting and via exports spilling over to activity in Austria. The sector most affected by slackening demand is manufacturing industry. In many other sectors of the economy growth is still solid and business and consumer confidency has hardly suffered. Because of the marked cyclical differential between the foreign and the domestic sector the surplus on current account has virtually disappeared.
