Data Science

Data Science staff are involved in the preparation, processing, analysis, evaluation and visual presentation of large and complex data sets. The focus is on data quality, data consistency and the comprehensible presentation of research results in the form of clear visualisations.

New technological possibilities and methods (such as machine learning and web scraping) are used to analyse large amounts of data and create new data sets. These innovative approaches open up great opportunities for empirical economic research and evidence-based economic policy. Artificial intelligence and the resulting methodological possibilities also play an important role.

Projects in which Data Science staff has been involved are, for example, the study of the price-dampening effects of non-profit housing  or the dashboard for energy consumption, production and pricing in Austria. The staff manages complex data sets such as the patent database of WIFO, complexity indicators for traded products (product space indicators) or the individual data stock of the labour market database of the Ministry of Social Affairs.
