A Model of Sickness Absenteeism

This study elaborates a theoretical model of sickness absence. The goal of the model is to provide an overview of the main causal determinants of sickness absence and their interdependencies. These determinants and causal relationships are derived from previous research and are supported based on the available literature. In a further step, this report gives an overview of the data which are available in Austria on the topic of sickness absence. The analytical model as well as the data overview help to identify which aspects of sickness absence are already well understood and can be continuously monitored and where, on the other hand, there is a greater need of research and data collection due to a lack of research findings and/or data.
