This survey of the literature on the subject describes the current state of the art on the subject of "long working hours". The primary focus is on the health consequences of overtime and long working hours, but the study also addresses other effects, such as reconciliation of work and private life. In conclusion, it embeds long working hours in an economic context and sketches ways to determine the economic costs of long working hours.
