The Payment System of the Pharmaceutical Salary Scheme and its Mechanism

  • Gudrun Biffl

The Pharmaceutical Salary Scheme is an organisation that carries out payroll accounting for pharmacy employees. A pay-as-you-go system ensures that employees get salaries differentiated by the scope and years of their service while employers pay in a uniform hourly rate for each employee. This system enables employees to flexibly design their working hours within the life cycle, e.g., reconciling job and family without impairing career opportunities. As a result, the sector shows an above-average rate of part-time jobs and good prospects for older workers to continue to work in their job. Demographic aging combined with deregulation and liberalisation of the pharmacy market have increased the cost pressure to which pharmacies are exposed, which will in turn make it necessary to adjust the scheme, and in particular the salaries system.
