Options to Increase Income Equity and Equal Opportunities for Women in Upper Austria

On average, the key labour market indicators are excellent for Upper Austria. However, this does not apply equally to women and men, as is shown by the indices for labour force participation, employment and wages/salaries. The large income gap is, i.a., fed by the state's economic and employment structure: due to the high industrial concentration, gender-segmentation by sectors and company sizes is stronger than in Austria as a whole. The differences in employment and income opportunities between men and women also reflect a more general social condition. Equality for women on the labour market thus cannot be achieved by the labour market on its own but needs political action at many levels and in many fields, not least in regional policy.
