Regional Growth and Adjustment of the Labour Market in the CEE Countries

In some respects, regional labour markets in the accession countries are quite comparable to their counterparts in the European Union. Especially with regard to female unemployment and employment rates, indices in the future EU member countries are better than the EU average. Nevertheless, unemployment rates continue to be higher and have been losing ground to the EU rates in recent years. Among other factors this development has been influenced by lower internal mobility in accession countries. This was the finding of a study conducted by WIFO jointly with seven international partners (ACCESSLAB).
