This lecture discusses the commonalities and differences between trade, free trade agreements, economic development and aid. These topics are reflected against the role of institutions in economic development processes. In addition, the activities of the aid industry are sketched. Different approaches to development are highlighted by a discussion of the activities of China and the EU as well as the USA.
